Civil & Structural Engineering
Design consultancies, EPC firms and general contractors that hire international graduates for civil, structural, transportation, water and geotechnical roles.
Large design firms (AECOM, Jacobs, WSP, HDR, Stantec, Kimley-Horn) and EPCs (Bechtel, Fluor, Kiewit, Burns & McDonnell) are the most consistent sponsors in this field; they hire EITs nationally and many have structured graduate programs. General contractors sponsor less often but do hire field engineers and VDC/BIM roles. State DOTs and most public agencies generally do not sponsor. Passing the FE exam before graduation noticeably improves your odds.
Before you apply
- Take the FE exam before you graduate and put "EIT" next to your name on the resume.
- List the software you actually used: AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, MicroStation, OpenRoads, ETABS, SAP2000, RISA, HEC-RAS, Bluebeam, Primavera P6.
- Design consultancies and EPC firms sponsor far more reliably than general contractors or public agencies.
- Search by office location — most civil hiring is tied to a regional office, not a national posting.
